Project Overview
The overall goal of this project is to improve the productivity, profitability, and environmental performance of manure management for Northeast agriculture through a partnership that communicates research findings, and educational products, from manure projects to a broad agricultural sector. The project will use a partnership of established agricultural delivery systems such as: Cooperative Extension, the Farm Bureau, land grant universities, State Departments of Agriculture, State Departments of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Soil and Water Conservation Districts, and others from agricultural industries.
The main objective will be to analyze data and develop informational materials based on onfarm manure treatment and handling systems that potentially can turn manure treatment into a profit center for the farm, and to prepare topical resource guides and interactive spreadsheets that would help in the design process.
The project would disseminate informational resource material through the existing outreach systems by the use of demonstrations, open houses, seminars, ag press print publications and educational programs. Using the Natural Resources, Agricultural and Engineering Service (NRAES) to continually market material and maintenance of a web site through Cornell’s server will keep the material current over time.
